Mon, Wed and Thurs 6pm; Saturdays 10am (sometimes)
Taught in the traditions of Baron Baptiste and Bryan Kest. The Power Flow classes are a strong vinyasa flow, moving gently and energetically from pose to pose, toning the entire body – inside and out. The 90 degree heat of the yoga room provides the ultimate benefit of detoxification along with deep breathing, mindful movement and dripping sweat. This class is both friendly and challenging for all bodies, all ages, all levels of experience, fitness and flexibility. Beginners are encouraged to jump right in! You have everything you need.
Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 10am
Many of you will be glad to hear that the room will be at a comfortable temperature, NOT 90 degrees! This is a class adapted from a Gentle Yoga class taught at Kripalu by Stephen Cope and has slowly evolved to meet the needs of our students. It is appropriate for all levels of practitioners – brand new beginner to highly experienced, all ages and bodies. It is a very well-thought-out progression of poses that takes the body through a gentle warm up, standing postures and floor postures designed to systematically open the body and bring fresh blood to those creaky joints. It is a perfect practice for those of us experiencing the wisdom that comes from living many years in the same body, as well as those ready to learn to trust the wisdom of our own body’s knowing. It’s chief aim is to teach us to be at home in the body.
LONG, SLOW AND DEEP
Just like it sounds! LONG holds moving SLOWly through the body getting the DEEPest stretches you can imagine for legs, hips and shoulders! This practice was developed by Bryan Kest of Santa Monica, CA and is AWESOME!!!
Monday thru Friday 7am
A beautiful way to add sitting meditation to your practice and to greet the day with openness and receptivity. 20 minutes of Sun Salutations followed by 20 minutes of stillness in quiet meditation. Using the Book of Common Prayer as a guide gives our practice a distinctively Christian flavor yet allows practitioners to explore and create a meditation practice that fits their own personal spiritual bent.
A class of 26 classic postures done in a heated room, beginning and ending with pranayama (breathing exercises), moving from standing balancing poses to poses on the floor. From bikramyoga.com: "It has been proved and experienced by millions that these 26 postures systematically work every part of the body, to give all the internal organs, all the veins, all the ligaments, and all the muscles everything they need to maintain optimum health and maximum function. Each component takes care of something different in the body, and yet they all work together synergistically, contributing to the success of every other one, and extending its benefits." This class is challenging yet accessible for all levels and a nice complement to the Power classes.
Restorative Yoga is a passive style that is designed to restore the nervous system and help release deeply held tensions. Much of this practice is about aligning and centering the physical and the mental, this is done by moving slowly and with ease through four to five main poses which are held for extended periods of time. To allow your body to slowly work into the poses we use props to support each posture which gently stretches and strengthens the body. This practice will create a sense of rest through rejuvenation of the nervous system (which can reduce the "fight or flight" stress response), and through the gentle release of held tension within the fascia of the body. It's something like group nap time for grownups!
